What Is the Coffee Making AI Trend?
Two characters, one red mug and a counter full of milk: where the coffee AI trend came from, what happens in the clip and how to make your own.
Last updated: 2026-11-02
The Coffee Making AI trend is a short AI video format in which two characters (usually dogs, cats, couples or friends) stand behind a kitchen counter and try to make one cup of coffee together, and fail completely. One pours the kettle, the other spoons instant coffee everywhere except the red mug, milk floods the counter, and at the end the one up front lifts the mug with a perfectly straight face. It has been spreading on TikTok, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts since late October 2026. Coffee Making AI is a tool that makes the same clip with the people or pets from your own photos.
Where the Coffee AI Trend Started: the Earliest Posts We Found
The earliest post we found is from @maxboerboeldog on TikTok, posted on October 27, 2026: two dogs, Max and Tilda, making coffee under the caption "when you leave Max and Tilda alone in the kitchen for 5 minutes". Max, a big brindle dog, stays calm up front while Tilda, a smaller fawn dog behind him, makes the mess. By November 2, 2026 it had 314,800 views and 29,400 likes. We don't know who made the very first clip, so treat this as one of the first, not the original.
The format moved fast after that:
- October 28, 2026: two French bulldogs do the same routine in a post by @frenchiebles on Instagram, captioned "Would YOU let these two make your morning coffee?"
- October 29, 2026: a knight in dark armor and a kitten in tiny armor make coffee together in a Reel by @amb_ai_studio. It had more than 191,000 likes by November 2, 2026.
- From October 27 on: couples, friends, cats and more dogs on TikTok, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts, many of them from India, under titles like "When Two Legends Try to Make Coffee", "AI Coffee Fail" and "Coffee making… went exactly as planned".
- From October 30, 2026: tutorial videos, many in Hindi, showing how to make the clip in other AI tools.
What Happens in the Clip
The versions we found follow the same short script (the characters and kitchens differ), filmed as one fixed vertical shot from counter height:
- The setup. A warm home kitchen with dark wooden cabinets. On a glossy speckled counter: a red mug, a steel kettle, a jar of instant coffee and a steel milk jug.
- The kettle. The one on the left pours hot water into the red mug.
- The grounds. The one up front scoops instant coffee with a teaspoon and misses the mug, again and again, until the grounds pile up on the counter. Deadpan the whole time.
- Out of sync. One moves the mug, the other spoons where the mug used to be.
- The milk flood. Milk spreads across the entire counter.
- The ending. The one up front calmly lifts the red mug and holds it, unbothered, while the mess sits there.
Why People Love It
It's a joke everyone recognizes: two roommates, a couple or two pets trying to share a kitchen first thing in the morning. One character causes the chaos and the other refuses to react to it, so the deadpan mug lift at the end lands every time. It also works with almost any pair. Two dogs, a dog and a cat, you and your partner, you and your best friend: the routine stays the same, and the casting is the punchline. That's why people keep remaking it with whoever they live with.
What the AI Version Keeps From the Trend and From Your Photos
Your video is generated from scratch, not cut from someone else's post. The routine is written as a prompt that the AI model follows, so every render varies a little.
From the trend:
- the kitchen-counter setup with the red mug, kettle, jar of instant coffee and milk jug
- the beats: kettle, missed mug, grounds on the counter, the milk flood, the calm mug lift
- the vertical 9:16 framing for TikTok, Reels and Shorts
From your photos:
- faces, hair and fur
- the outfits you're wearing in the photos
- who plays which part: photo 1 is the one up front on the right, photo 2 is the one on the left
The model sometimes keeps parts of a photo's own background, so the kitchen can look a little different from render to render. The sound is an AI-made light comedy tune with kitchen sounds (spoon clinks, pouring, a milk splash), instrumental with no vocals. It's not the sound from the trend's posts, and you can add any sound you like when you post.
Make Your Own Coffee Making AI Video
Head to the generator on the homepage, upload one photo for each character and choose 10 seconds (13 credits) or the full 15 seconds (20 credits). Pets stand up on their hind legs and use their front paws like hands, just like in the trend. If you only have one photo, leave the second slot empty and that person or pet plays both parts, like twins. For photo advice and posting tips, read how to make a Coffee Making AI video.
